Kadalundi Grama Panchayat: Geography
Kadalundi is a coastal Grama Panchayat located in the southern part of Kozhikode district in Kerala. The Arabian Sea and the Kadalundi River play a decisive role in the geographical formation of this region.

Location:

Coastline: The western part of Kadalundi Grama Panchayat borders the Arabian Sea, giving the region a coastal character.

Proximity to River: The Kadalundi River flows through the eastern part. This river plays a significant role in the water resources and ecosystem of the Panchayat.

Neighboring Areas: To the north, it shares borders with Beypore and Feroke Panchayats; to the east, with Feroke and Ramanattukara Panchayats; and to the south, with Tenhipalam, Vallikkunnu, and Parappanangadi Panchayats.

Topography:

Estuary and Mangroves: The estuary where the Kadalundi River meets the Arabian Sea has formed a large backwater area (kayal). Mangrove forests are abundant along the banks of this backwater region. Mangroves are of great ecological importance; they help in coastal protection and provide habitat for various species.

Coastal Plains: The areas adjacent to the coastline are relatively low-lying plains. Coconut groves and sandy areas are common here.

Small Hills/Elevated Regions: Moving inland from the coastal plains, one can find small hills and elevated regions. These areas are usually inhabited and used for agriculture.

Wetlands: There are many wetlands and paddy fields dependent on the Kadalundi River. However, their extent is diminishing due to urbanization.

Key Features:

Kadalundi-Vallikkunnu Community Reserve: Located at the estuary of the Kadalundi River, this community reserve is famous for migratory birds. The ecosystem, comprising the sea, river, and mangroves, is a habitat for numerous bird and animal species, thereby enhancing Kadalundi's geographical importance.

Riverine Sustenance: The Kadalundi River supports agricultural needs, drinking water, and to some extent, irrigation in the Panchayat.
